Doulas were historically known as "woman who served" or "slave" in ancient Greek. Obviously, language has moved on and the word was reclaimed in the 70's to describe an experienced woman who, after birth, assisted the mother with breastfeeding her baby
Doulas are people specially trained to give emotional and practical support during pregnancy, labour, birth and postnatal period, supporting the whole family, leading to more satisfying and empowered experiences
Continuum Doulas work to a new model of Doulaing.
Traditional Doulas will meet with you 2 or 3 times before the birth and once or twice afterward.
Continuum Doulas are committed to offering around 6 antenatal visits, attendance of the client's birth, and 6 postnatal visits. You can get me up until your little one is 1!
As mentioned in my about me I sought Continuum due to their ethos around continuity of care and advocating for minority backgrounds, things that are incredibly important to me.
